The project “Soil Revival in the Classroom – AgriSciences Platform”, developed by a team of representatives of Sumy State University together with Sumy National Agrarian University, became the winner of the grant program and received support for implementation in Ukraine.

The goal of the project is the environmental education of students and schoolchildren by involving them in practical classes dedicated to the rational management of organic waste. The initiative provides for educational workshops, during which participants will learn about the processes of collecting, processing and reusing food waste to restore soil fertility and grow plants.

A separate element of the project is to familiarize participants with basic approaches to the use of composite and biocomposite materials as examples of modern multi-component systems. Such materials are considered in an educational context in order to form a general idea of the combination of natural components and the possibility of their practical application in the educational process. The emphasis is on demonstration and interdisciplinary approaches, without in-depth technical or industrial analysis.

The project is aimed at popularizing the principles of sustainable development, increasing the environmental awareness of young people, and developing practical skills useful for local communities in Ukraine.

Project team:

Kateryna Marchenko — PhD student at Sumy State University, The Department of Applied Material Science and Technology of Constructional Materials;

Ivan Pirogov — Bachelor's student at Sumy State University;

Serhiy Berdin — Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor at Sumy National Agrarian University.

The implementation of the project "Soil Revival in the Classroom" will contribute to the development of environmentally responsible thinking and the introduction of practices of sustainable resource use in the educational environment.
